While at Bunnings one afternoon Tom spied a couple of people wearing black gumboots and the infamous khaki that he loves. The pair were also pushing a trolley loaded with wire and rolls of thick black plastic. Tom was onto them. “They’re building croc enclosures mum, I just know they are, come and talk to them mum, please, please please” Seeing that their shirts said Crocodylus Park and that Tom could be right, we went to chat. These two were quite taken by this mini Steve Irwin in full khakis, with his many questions and amazing knowledge of crocs. Tom was right, they were building croc enclosures, and before we knew it we had an invite to come and be a part of their croc breeding program. So at the set time the next Monday we arrived at Crocodylus park.
Our new found friends took us behind the scenes to see the incubators and nursery pools. We were also allowed to take part in the hatching of baby salt water crocodiles. It was a fantastic experience, even more special for kids who love all things crocodile and Steve Irwin. Our special friend Hayley asked Tom to be her pen pal and they still communicate their animal stories and updates on the crocs we saw born. Very special day, and lovely to know that there are still people who go out of their way to make little kids dreams come true.
