Olgas – Kata Tjuta

13/9/08

The Olgas (Kata Tjuta) is a spectacular group of 36 massive red rock outcrops separated by narrow valleys. The area covers 35 square kilometres and is about 50 kilometres from Ayers Rock. The highest rock is Mount Olga which rises 546 metres above the desert floor.

The rock domes and valleys really were spectacular. The flies however were terrible. We all had fly net head gear to wear which was a saving grace.

The kids spent most of the time playing war games and setting up ambushes. The visit ended with a competition to see who could do the best dying impersonation. Even the 1 year old had her act down pat.
