On an adventure to Gunn Point, we drove into a spot of bother. Steve was keen to find a little creek off the ocean at the tip of Darwin that he spotted from the plane. He studied his map and worked out where he thought it was, and we headed off. We found Gunn Point and the creek and had a fantastic day exploring and fishing. When it was time to go home we had one of those moments that change the course of action for the rest of your day. Nick having watched many young fellas on quad bikes and a few 4WDs going up and down the beach pleaded with us to have a quick little drive on the beach before we left. Simultaneously Steve and I both answered him. Steve said yes as I said no! So after a bit of bullying on Steves behalf to “come on mum, have a bit of fun!!” I gave in and said fine if you think it’s OK.
Well, as it turned out “no” was the right answer and as we drove across a little creek bed we got bogged. At first we thought we would be able to get out easily, but we were wrong. 4 hours later and with the help of some passers by who came by the grace of God, we were saved. The tide had turned and was heading in, we were out of phone range, we were stuck between the creek and the ocean in croc territory. To make matters worse we had left all of our recovery gear at the resort to make room for the pram. What were we thinking??? Two days later we felt sick to the stomach for another fellow in the local newspaper who lost his brand new $60,000 land cruiser on the same bit of beach to the incoming tide. We were very grateful for Gods provision on so many levels.
