Well as parents of five children you get used to lots of busy, lots of noise, lots of company and lots of lots…
As our kids have started to move away for study we have actually really struggled with the change. It feels wrong, someone’s missing, there’s less busy, less noise and less stuff.
After our first Son moved out for university my husband bought a puppy. We already had a dog, Arlo a miniature poodle that we’d bought a few years earlier for our youngest daughter.
The new puppy Maggie is a King Charles cavalier and she’s very sweet. She has Steve wrapped around her little paw and she can do no wrong.
When our 2nd Son moved away to study my husband bought another puppy. Mocha, a Black and Tan King Charles cavalier.
Maggie and Mocha get on very well, actually Maggie being older has done a great job of mothering Mocha. Arlo on the other hand isn’t that interested in the girls he’s more of a people’s person and prefers human company.
When our 3rd Son was moving away I told my husband that if he bought one more puppy I’d adopt a baby, and that seemed to do the trick.
As we were all feeling a hole in our lives without the boys, Steve thought breeding dogs would be a good project and distraction for us. We had the means a male miniature poodle and 2 female King Charles cavaliers and we needed something new to focus on.
As we also home school it would be a great project. Researching everything to do with breeding dogs and having puppies. Caring for the puppies and eventually, advertising and selling them. Any money made after we took out all the costs could be a travel fund, cause the girls want to travel, well we all do and that’s definitely something that would require supplementary income.
Well as you’ll know from the first picture the project is going well. Maggie had her first litter of 5 puppies. Two black and white and three tan and white cavoodle puppies.
We’re learning a lot, almost as quickly as the puppies are growing and I’ll keep you updated on their progress. It really has been a fantastic experience so far, we all adore the puppies, I’m just hoping we can follow through on the project and sell them.
